In 2015, the UN building on the achievements of the Millennium Development Goals, proposed a new agenda “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” which calls for renewed initiatives on sustainable development. Many sectors interpret this new agenda as a call to channel civic actions to influence the use of natural resources in a manner that meets human needs for both current and future generations. While the proposal is not entirely new, the call to action is resonating among many countries and within regions due to overwhelming evidence on changing climatic conditions and increasing pressure on the environment.

In this context, Cavite province with an area of 1,426.06 square kilometers is home to about four million people. It is the most populous province of the Philippines today due to rapid birthrate and in-migration. Additionally, it is fast transforming itself from being an agrarian society into an industrial society. The constant transformation over the last two decades has brought key sustainability challenges:  traffic congestion, pollution, water shortages, and health-related issues. While investment in innovative technology and green infrastructure is important, the sustainability of the province is in the leadership and its people including local knowledge rooted in cultural heritage, original traditions and values. Envisioning a sustainable Cavite is crucial to avoid or counteract man-made environmental and social issues. To resolve the sustainability issues, we have to see beyond the present urbanized Cavite.

The 2018 Research Week presents an opportunity for students, professors and researchers in public and private institutions, other professionals from the industry to address these issues and a chance for practitioners involved directly in development issues that impact society to share and exchange information.

The Research Week will focus, but not limited to the following six main themes:

·         Culture, Arts and History

·         Academe, Education and Learning

·         Values and Ethics

·         Industry and Economic Development

·         Technology and Innovation

·         Environment and Health

There will be three plenary sessions to be followed by parallel sessions on April 18. Parallel sessions will be structured to provide a coherent series of topics.

New deadline of submission of abstracts:    March 20, 2018

Notification of paper acceptance:    March 30, 2018

The abstract must be:

• composed of only 250 words or less
• in Times New Roman size 12
• in MS Word 97-2003 format
• sent as an attachment to uro@dlsud.edu.ph with the subject "paper for the parallel sessions"

Registation fee (for non-DLSU-D faculty and students): Php500.00 (covers the conference kit, lunch and snacks)
